Mentoring Programs
Michelle Clark School
100 Black Men of Chicago
conducts weekly mentoring sessions with young male students from the
sixth, seventh and eighth grades of Michelle Clark Middle School. This
school named in honor of noted journalist Michelle Clark (1943-1972), is
located in the Lawndale community of Chicago’s West side. These
after-school weekly mentoring sessions are designed to teach young men the
value of being responsible, respecting themselves as well as others, being
courteous and increasing their vocabulary. In addition, we stress the
importance of developing social skills such as proper posture, speech and
voice inflection and maintaining eye contact.
Libby School
100 Black Men of Chicago
conducts weekly mentoring sessions at Arthur A. Libby Elementary School,
which is located on Chicago’s south side. This mentoring program, in its
third year, consists of three primary areas of educational focus: computer
technology, medical technology, and business technology. Our blend of
traditional 100 BMC competencies such as group presentation skills and
vocabulary expansion coupled with engaging, competitive educational
programs continue to be successful. Field trips are part of the program,
which provides the mentees with the opportunity of hands on and an up
front look at the computer, medical and business professions.
